Swimming HYPERCAPNIA increased content of carbon dioxide in the body. Hypercapnia can lead to unconsciousness under water. Carbon dioxide also dilates blood vessels, which allows more dissolved gases to pass through the circulatory system, reaching various extra-internal organs, which increases the risk of oxygen poisoning, nitrogen anesthesia, decompression sickness, and hypothermia.
