Sailing BATTLESHIP a ship of the second half of the XIX-early XX century with powerful artillery armament and strong armor protection. Coastal defense battleships (displacement up to 8,000 tons) were intended for combat operations in coastal areas. The squadron battleship (10,000-17,000 tons displacement) was intended for naval combat as part of the squadron as the main strike force of the Fleet.
