sports dictionary Basketball - THREE-SECOND ZONE
Basketball THREE-SECOND ZONE the free throw zone on the basketball court, which is a trapezoid. This is the square directly next to the ring. Any attacking player is prohibited from being in the wrong penalty area for more than three seconds when the ball is in play. An exception is made if the player is about to exit it or attacks the ring. The rule was introduced in order to prevent high players from constantly staying in this zone, waiting for a transfer from their partners. This innovation has made the game more dynamic, forcing players to constantly move around.
