sports dictionary Ice hockey - OFFSIDE (OUT OF PLAY)
Ice hockey OFFSIDE (OUT OF PLAY) incorrect positioning of hockey players during an attack. If both skates of a player cross the blue line of the opponents zone before the puck, the referee fixes the position "out of play". The line umpires are responsible for determining the offside position. The referee who has registered the offside position raises his hand in the air. If a player of the attacking team touches the puck, the game is stopped. If the players who are offside leave the opponents zone or the puck does so, the referee lowers his hand. The game continues.
